The Last of the Gracious Losers by The Gracious Losers

More creativity from Glasgow which is surely one of the UK's most productive cities. I went to a dog disco there  - it was incredible. Anyway this is the brainchild of one Jonathan Lilley and it features a 12 piece ensemble made out of people from Thrum, God Help the Girl and something called The Berrie Big Band. Influences include Neil Young and Van Morrison so this could be rather interesting.

9/10 John Harper 30th October 2018

On day off. with no particular commitments, I like to wonder around Glasgow via Coffee, record and bookshops. Today was such a day and one of my stops was LP records, in Park Rd. Browsing through the racks I came across the beautiful sleeve of "The last of the gracious losers". A striking and beautiful thing indeed ! Probably worth the purchase price by itself. Looking at contributors to the album, I was delighted to see the name of Monica Queen appear -where is she ? why has she not got music in her own name? Anyway those two very pleasant surprises set the the tone and my expectations were high. Glad to say I was not let down. The only comparison I can make is when, many years ago, I was given a copy of a Live album " To late to stop now " by a guy called Van Morrison , (Circa 1977), need I say more. This album has had a similar effect.

I had no idea what to expect but what i got was 8 strong songs beautifully grafted songs and some incredibly beautiful playing. I have only recently finished listening to the record so cannot give a track by track review but who is this guy Jonathon lilley ?

Can we Please have some more
