Cardiff’s Bubblewrap Collective brings you Cardiff’s Perfect Body and Cardiff’s Zac White with split EP Fields / Spent On You. Wafting up out of the Welsh city’s underground like some rockin’ spectre, Perfect Body strums out a mist of shoegazy psych-rock, while wee White, but twenty years of age, offers up jangling, pitch-wheezing riffery and vocals on the calmer end of garage.

- Fields / Spent On You by Perfect Body / Zac White
A split LP from Wales here where austerity no doubt has ensured that the best way to get music out is club together. First up is Perfect Body - aI don't know why they've named themselves after my esteemed torso but I'm thankful for the compliment. Aaaanyway it's great indie rock - driving, infectious a bit shoegazy, a bit discordant - opener Getting Cold has all the weird chords and post My Bloody Valentine scree in all the right places with vocals lurking just under the surface. Fields shows a similar nous for skewed pop music with flanged guitars strumming and jangling over dreamy harmonies. A bit like Lush I guess? The closing Tribe of Mine confirms that these are dream pop people who know what they are doing. You've noted the name now - watch this space.
Overleaf Zac White pursues a less full and noisy template but still plays just off centre. Spent on You sits nicely between Gruff Rhys and H. Hawkline with jusy hints of early Pink Floyd melodrama lurking in the background. Other tracks like Nuclear Splinter have that mix of glam and psych pop that appeared on the recent White Fence and Ty Segall collaborative LP and Sirhan Sirhan plays a form of skewed dream pop that is sure to go down well with the band on the A side.
Good stuff all round.
