Bauri returns to B12 offshoot FireScope Records (Derek Carr, Steven Rutter) with the follow-up to 2017’s Vinkelvolten EP. Vinkelvolten II is another salvo of friendly downtempo electro. There’s a bit of an Oliver Postgate vibe to this thing, particularly on the twinkly and trip-hop-influenced title track and ‘Cocoon’. Boards Of Canada also spring to mind at points.

As you all know by now we are populated in this office by tragic old men who remember the glory days of warm melodic electronica made by the likes of Boards of Canada, Plaid and Autechre before they went too weird. So when records like the ones made by Bauri (aka Martin Abrahamsson) come in we get this little fuzzy feeling of nostalgia for when we sold records via a rusty dial-up connection and we had a telly in the office.
Following on from Vinkelvolten here's Vinkelvolten II from this Danish poetry who on 'Hertsi' comes up with something which matches Squarepusher's Iambic 5 Poetry with a warm fluffy cushion. On the title tracks shards of electronica bounce around the mix in a vaguely acidic manner before clumping together to form an lovely tune which is reminiscent of the warmer more user friendly end of Aphex Twin.
Bauri do nothing particularly new or groundbreaking here but what we do get is five slabs of crunchy, melodic electronica for fans of Warp, Skam and all the 90s/00s beat botherers.
