Happy to see Blackest Ever Black’s A14 sister label back in action with a plate from No Symbols/Mistry bossman Beneath.
The first of two cyberdelic techno steppers is ‘Cloudy’ which has me imaging being on the dancefloor at a DMZ night, looking up at the DJ booth, only to discover the disc jockey is actually none other than evil dreadlock sporting alien The Predator, transmitting the sour bass frequencies of his remix of Coki’s sci-fi bass wobble prototype ‘Spongebob’ via his infrared vision. There’s an eerie, paranoid atmosphere to this cut, the pulsating, morphing bass gets right up your nostrils and down the throat like some nasty, choking H.R. Geiger-esque tendrils, that once inside the body, leak acid, disintegrate the lungs and melt you from the inside.
‘Outsource’ yields a similar smoggy atmosphere with menacing bass searching like red laser beams penetrating the fog and aimed square at dancers rattling chests. As the bass mutates from gnarly doom low end to increasingly acidic sounding, it definitely gives me the feeling I’m prey, and about to be TERMINATED. Both are great tracks - spooked, heavy, smoked out with a sticky/sludgy, syrupy stomp to the drums. Crank ‘em up to eleven for maximum damage.
