Paint is the solo project from Allah-las guitarist and singer Pedrum Siadatian. He started to record some of his weirder ideas on a four-track back in 2016 around the time of Allah-las third album, Calico Review. Taking inspiration from Kevin Ayers, Julian Cope, Syd Barrett, R. Stevie Moore and Lou Reed, his ideas have grown into a perfectly imperfect eponymous debut album. LP and CD on Mexican Summer.

Funnily enough if I ever had a band I was going to call it Paint. I guess that dream has died now unless I call it Paint UK or Thee Paint or P@int. Anyway the real Paint is one of the Allah Lahs - the magnificently named Pedrum Sladation - doing his lo-fi solo thing. It's all very nice and summery but it's very hard to listen to it and not think of Mac De Marco. Which makes you wonder if musicians sit around all day waiting for someone to form a signature sound that they can ape.
So Paint is full of wobbly lo-fi guitars, shambolic arrangements and homespun vocals. Things like Moldy Man bring to mind the off kilter pop of Syd Barrett with it's running water vocals and sideways guitars. I'm waiting for great moments and one does turn up in True Love (Is Hard To Find) a wandering wibbling thing which brings to mind Daniel Johnston as re-imagined by kevin Ayres. Great song that you can imagine getting covered buy someone cool sometime down the line. It's moments like these that make this a worthwhile pursuit for Mr Sladation.
