The Japanese word kwaidan (怪談) could be translated vaguely as ‘ghost/horror story’, but its noticeably old-fashioned connotation of Edo-era folklore is what chiefly interests Hiroshima artist Meitei on this here spooky outing for Evening Chants. Lo-fi, collagist approaches to traditional and speech samples and a few of the ol’ bare-bones beats inform his playful, eerie style.
Singapore import cassette tape on Evening Chants. Limited edition of 100 copies, bound by a translucent obi strip.
