Begat and raised in the Sierra Nevada mountains and now resident of Portland, Oregon, subtle songwriter and nature-lover Lindsay Clark returns with her fourth album. Crystalline focuses on highly delicate, nuanced songwriting. Layered vocals, piano, flute, clarinet, piano and guitar quietly articulate Clark & co's expressive tunes.

7/10 Clinton Staff review, 17 October 2018

It's quite obvious that Lindsay Clark grew up in the mountains. Her voice flows as if it's water tumbling down rocks and glinting in the sun. Her gentle melodies incorporate finger picked mountain folk into her balladry. The chitter chatter of picked acoustic guitar joined by lush strings on the opener 'Grow' and gentle piano on 'Deliver Me', there's a Robert Kirby-ishness to the arrangement which successfully watercolour the music without disturbing it's simplicity.

I like her more when she's even more sparse. Side A closer 'Rosehips' is just a delight. This is some seriously quiet music, her voice flows like caramel over the gently fingerpicked arrangements. There's something of Sandy Denny in the more traditional songwriting here such as 'Lovers' but Clark's voice is always soothing and welcoming. I could stand for a few eerier atmospheres at times as it is relentlessly sweet and but it's a lovely way to spend 40 minutes...and that voice? Well you could fall in love with it.
