Pere Ubu’s synth whizz Allen Ravenstine returns with a typically hare-brained record. Waiting For The Bomb is one of those rare LPs where you can’t really find a genre for it. It’s got a kind of Krautrock thing going on, but only in the sense that it combines acoustic and electronic instruments and has modular synths filling the space where you usually find vocals. There’s also a quality about it that leads you to think it could soundtrack a film one day, but then you’re stumped if you could say what kind of film. Related listening would be … Klaus Schulze? Amon Düül maybe? It’s good, anyway.
