Ghana’s Gyedu-Blay Ambolley sees some of his choicest morsels reissued in this new four-track compilation on Analog Africa. In the 60’s and 70’s Ambolley had led Afro-funk groups and played alongside Ebo Taylor in The Stargazers, but the subsequent decade saw him becoming increasingly interested in synthesizers. All four of these cuts date from that period. Ambolley and his Zantoda Mak III band maintain the muscular grooves of his previous output while incorporating squelching synth basslines and dinky keyboard leads.
