Hello Terry. Rather than a person (like Venables) Terry is in fact a band from Australia none of which (to my knowledge) are called Terry. According to the press release Terry romance the mundane but at the same time share ideals with Steely Dan and 10CC neither of which are mundane. They are meant to make you queasy.

7/10 Clinton Staff review, 29 August 2018

Welcome to the new season of 'Bands are Called the Funniest Things' and this week's guests are Terry. The Australian band transcend their rather moribund moniker by making lo-fi indie pop that they claim is 'meant to make you feel queasy'.  I did indeed find opening track 'Carpe Diem' made me feel rather ill but anything with spoken word in it tends to have that effect. 'Bureau' is much more like it  - early 80s style indie pop with smooth female vocals and oddball guitar solos. The fact that I lost concentration half way through and started checking Twitter shouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. It ear soothed pretty nicely to soundtrack people getting rather angry with things.

Listening to the album as a whole it strikes me that Terry may be the sort of band you need to see live before falling in love with. They have some terrible songs ('The Whip' is hopeless) but mostly it's really interesting and they play some unusual things such as 'Under Reign' which makes them sound a bit like the Raincoats and a bit like severely undervalued New Zealand innovators Marie & the Atom. Their harmonies are dishevelled and off kilter, their guitars go sideways.

Strange and unique indie pop but I bet watching them wrestle with these unusual pop songs in the live environment is how to catch them at their best.
