After posting two entries on their Realm Of Consciousness compilations, German mainstay Recondite can now add a full EP for Afterlife to a CV that already includes drops on Ghostly International, Hotflush and Innervisions. The six tracks that comprise Rainmaker are brooding dystopian tech-house that is not dissimilar to fellow Afterlife signees Tale Of Us and Fideles.

I'm not sure if there's a way out of here... so perhaps the best way is to dream. Recondite's chilly atmospheric techno could provide the perfect soundtrack to a low speed escape from a mundane workplace. It has slow and quiet textures, a general feeling of insouciance at odds with, say, Rival Consoles more frenetic attempts at soundtracking being chased. On the plus side Recondite is hugely atmospheric. The best thing here is 'Rainmaker' a superbly icy piece of electronica with dark swirling clouds of synth neath some pulsating beats. That moment where you are chased to the edge of the lake and despite your utter panic you have to appreciate the beauty of the place.
If you've heard a Recondite record before you'll know what to expect. If not then it's pulsating slabs of sound, not without nods towards acid and the more dancefloor edge of techno but always more interested in creating moods using a relatively narrow sound palette of rattly percussion and low end soft synth.
Do take care though, the speed differs on the A and B sides here so you'll need your finger on the button.
