Upon being turfed out of their Berlin rehearsal space by a ‘slick boy pop band’ back in 2014, Lavender Hex put away their drums and guitars and started to experiment with home-taping. Fast forward a few years and we have the duo’s eponymous debut LP. The tunes here dance between dubby lo-fi excursions ala High Places (‘What’s The Damage?’, ‘Power’), sombre electronica that brings to mind Portishead on a budget (‘Darling’) and post-punky sound art (‘The Sorrow Song Is Ghosting The Theatre’). A varied and rewarding listen.
