Despite their name Hater are quite the romantics at heart. The Scandinavian four piece play heart-on-sleeve indie rock with memorable melodies, chiming guitars and just a bit of synth haze.  A perfect summer soundtrack that has led them to be compared to the Chills, Snail Mail and the Concretes

7/10 Clinton Staff review, 25 September 2018

Perhaps a limit should be put on how quickly a band can rise to prominence. Hater only started in 2016 and already they are on their second album. Is this enough time to properly develop their sound and write enough decent songs in order not to waste everyone's time? Well they are assured certainly. They play a pretty brand of Swede-pop that will be familiar to anyone who used to listen to the Cardigans. They have that classic Swedish mix of jangling guitars and glacial synths and are topped rather beautifully by Caroline Landahl's vocals. On 'It's So Easy' they have an immediate 6 Music friendly hit on their hands, lifted by a chorus that seems to take the track up another level. 'I Wish I Gave You More Time Because I Love You' is a polite ballad aided and abetted by some rather nice horn play and again it's saved from tedium by a delicious chorus with twinkling descending guitars.

There's is an agreeable sound  - nice and spacious  - on 'Fall Off' the guitar duelling could be said to be reminiscent of bands like American Football but their song craft is more straight down the line. There's not many chances taken here and perhaps they don't need to. In Landahl they have a distinctive wistful vocalist... I'd just like a bit more edge and grit to get my excited rather than having my ears pleasantly tickled. Not bad though and I'll letb them get aeway with being really new.
