In a very Numero-esque move the Institute for Danish Sound Archaeology have uncovered hours of reel to reel tape experiments by Danish amateurs who worked outside of the academy. In doing so they have captured a very specific moment in music history, where whole new musical worlds were suddenly available to people.

The Danish Sound Archaeology imprint shine a light into this fascinating, obscure crevice of DIY European avant garde. Spanning three decades, the works they’ve compiled illustrate what can be achieved within fairly limited means and lots of imagination. These marvellous experiments and adventurous explorations into sound were created utilising liberating, emerging domestically available technologies. The whole thing plays out like something that could have been a fantasy inclusion on the famed Nurse With Wound List. The type of weird and wonderful tape manipulations that preceded Chris Watson’s early contributions to Cabaret Voltaire or Philip Rupenus, Richard Rupenus classic LP as Bladder Flask ‘'One Day I Was So Sad That The Corners Of My Mouth Met & Everybody Thought I Was Whistling' from 1981. The label have done a fantastic job in preserving these works for posterity and indeed presented them to a whole new generation. There’s some really amusing, absolutely crackers stuff on here as well as more serious pieces inspired by the cutting edge electronic musics of the era.
Comes with a 12-page booklet containing an extensive essay by Danish composer Jonas Olesen plus some pretty great photographs. Highly recommended!
