Gulp are comprised of Super Furry Animals Guto Pryce alongside Lindsey Leven and Gid Goundrey and have become rather expert at making psychedelic mini kraut gems which have a certain pop nous to them that recalls both their parent band and the likes of Stereolab. The band have an inventive and free flowing way of making music that ensure that they blend disparate influences into a sound all their own.

Just currently trying to get the CD to play. It's pretty tough job but eventually I'm pretty sure it will happen. In the meantime I can pretty much recall my thoughts about this album because we played it about a hundred fucking times last week and what I'd say is that it starts excellently. Opener 'Search For Your Love' is brilliantly catchy synth-based kraut rock with a chorus you'd want to kill for and 'Claudia' was pretty neat and tidy too.
Gulp can do it - absolutely no doubt about that. But as the albums wears on the question comes to mind of how many Broadcast-ish bands do you need? Gulp as they go on become more and more a watered down version of Trish Keenan's lot and quickly begin to lose the vim and vigour that they showed during the early parts of the LP. It's not a bad record at all I just hoped for more originality across the album from these Super Furry Animals related folks. Still when they are good they are very very good. And if you like the current wave of everyone sounding like Broadcast/doing the synth kraut thing/being a bit like Jane Weaver then there's much to enjoy here.
Having played a few tracks the CD has now given up the ghost. Never mind - all the best stuff is front loaded on this one and it's worth getting in early for.
