Now This is more like it. Portland’s Weeed return with another dispatch of long-form Black Sabbath worship. Four lengthy jams on this LP which combine all manner of stonerisms - psych, Kraut, noise, metal, even a little gnawa - without ever bringing things on too heavy. Plenty of fun to be had here, especially if you like Goat, Wooden Shjips and so on.

It’s short for Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed. They’ve barely managed to put this out, by the looks of it, snoozing their way to publication with just enough energy to procure an album title: This. High as Clint will be if Southgate and co do the business tonight, they create a psychedelic hotbox for all those still listening to this kind of thing when they smoke.
Me, I’d just listen to podcasts. But there’s always this as an alternative: the slow, rhythmic pulses of “Haze II” are sparse and inviting, offering you a little bit of miasma on which to try and float. They then go stoner metal on “Our Song”, offering bouncy guitars with the occasional outburst of solo. It’s a feast of dynamic shift, getting the headbangs and air guitars in at once. “Wave” is a noisy freakout that eventually goes slow and sludgy, with a bit of wah saving the day; “This” is a little wild and proggy, with racing guitars that remind me of early Genesis amidst its otherwise chaotic burst of energy. From within the cloud they start playing their instruments full of righteous fury, inspired by 'inspiration'.
