This label rules. I’m all ears every time they put out a new record - they’ve put out some proper belters and here’s another… a six track EP from Sophia Loizou who has previously had a couple of albums out on Astro:Dynamics and Kathexis.

Intro 'Loop of Perception' accelerates like we're about to blast into hyperspace before deconstructed jungle flashback ‘Memories of Angels’ similarly teases, building tension and shooting in fragments of breakbeats like some chewed up old Grooverider tape. Then comes ‘Shadow Box’ which goes off, but is similarly restrained in the tension it builds and the energy it releases. It’s clear at this point that Sophia Loizou is certainly schooled in classic 90’s jungle and drum & bass. She acknowledges the roots but isn't overly nostalgic or retro - her sound is thoroughly modern and forward-looking. ‘Frozen Dust’ plays like an extended gnarly darkside breakdown, while ‘The Interior Life of Another’ has sharp breakbeats curling like lethal shards of swarf, spiralling into the dance. Last tune ‘Morphogenesis’ sounds like the melting of the icy soundscapes that came before it and as the title suggests re-forming to build new ground. Sophia Loizou uses trustworthy old building blocks and shiny new tools to carve her own path from the past into the future. Crank it up to destructive levels for maximum impact.
