Another week, another great record from the exciting new London jazz scene. This time it’s the turn of polymath Emma-Jean Thackray. Though primarily a trumpeter, she recorded every part on Ley Lines herself. While this method of production will inevitably invoke comparisons with Madlib’s Yesterday’s New Quintet project, the mini-LP also has shades of the Art Ensemble of Chicago as well as BADBADNOTGOOD’s lackadaisical groove music.
