For his third LP as Chad Valley, Oxford musician Hugo Manuel decided to follow his pop instincts. Ditching the collaboration-heavy approach of his previous record, Imaginary Music sees Manuel settling comfortably into role of auteur. The resulting album is replete with heady electro-pop that recalls Prefab Sprout, electro Arcade Fire and the softer edges of Daft Punk’s Discovery. If they do another Drive movie, the likes of ‘LA In August’ and ‘Impartial’ could crop up in the soundtrack.
