Dual Purpose is Hospital Productions regular Matthew Folden. A frequent collaborator with Prurient and also half of Virile Games and K.P. alongside Max Gudmunson. This 2LP compiles a selection of tracks (not all of 'em) originally released as limited edition tapes (Babe, Beer, Bar and Car) on Hospital Productions.

The collection traverses quite a few styles, all held together with the same murky, lo-fi, minimal/rudimentary, spacey, creepy, and often futuristic aesthetic. Things aren't consistently gloomy either... There are some very lovely moments such as the gently bubbling blue ambient of 'Two Way Mirror', and the twinkling 'Cochi Loco' which sounds more like Shinichi Atobe's weathered house music than something you'd expect to find on Hospital Productions. This flirtation with more "dance" music styles isn't just limited to that tune either, there are beats scattered here and there that lend fragments from footwork and drum & bass such as the bizarre 'Daisy'. The heavier, throbbing and more pulsing technoid moments make me think of Thought Broadcast does Pan Sonic or something.
