Extremely enticing visual and sound art project from Italian electroacoustician Fabio Orsi and Italian photographer and poet Alessandra Guttagliere. Giardino Forico no 1 - Napoli would appear to be an attempt to represent a place (the city of Naples) through a layered blend of field recordings and sound, and fifty-six pages worth of photographs and words. Available in both single and double CD editions from 13 / silentes.

“La citta ci ha attraversato come una grande onda di polvere portata dal vento” / The city has passed through us like a big wave of dust carried by the wind. And so, by the end of this journey, has the city of Naples come and gone via a series of evocative field recordings and sound artistry which make up this beautiful, lush set of CD’s and 56-page artwork photo-book combo.
Fabio Orsi has long been the sort of electroacoustics-sound-art guy who will threaten to steal a sizeable piece of your heart with his fully immersive sonic voyages, and on ‘Giardino Forico n° 1 - Napoli’ all these wonderful bits of the city are brought vividly into your living-space, so that you can hear the choristers assemble at Naples Cathedral, the surf breaking in the bay, and almost smell the slight mustiness of a shaded Catacombe di San Gennaro, all without leaving your shabby, old pet-hair strewn sofa.
Sound design complements recordings of classical piano streaming through an open window, a guitar being picked on the beach, seagulls screaming high overhead. It’s a truly beautiful package not even taking into the consideration the artwork and photography of Alessandra Guttagliere which adorns the lavish outsized book. Magnifico!
