The Man! Was Leroy Hutson’s second album, originally released in 1974, following a spell as Curtis Mayfield’s replacement in soul group The Impressions. This album is notable for containing the track The Ghetto ‘74 which he co-wrote with Donny Hathaway who recorded the song four years previously. LP with extensive sleeve notes by Tony Rounce and CD with bonus track on Acid Jazz.

7/10 Jack Customer review, 20th March 2018
Hutson, former Curtis Mayfield/Impression/Donny Hathaway conspirator has put in a lot of work on this album. The flamboyance of the "Philly" even "Hot Buttered Soul" sound are there, but the grooves have a much harder edge. The drums, bass lines and fuzzy guitar grooves are mixed well above the strings as you listen. You can tell he's a brilliant and imaginative producer and vocalist and has a brilliant arranger by his side but there just seem to be something missing that seems to put him over the top. I just can't quite put my finger on it.
