Dekmantel’s tenth-birthday vinyl series rounds out with possibly the strongest release of the lot. Tony Allen’s 1999 Afro-futurist masterpiece ‘Asiko (In A Silent Mix)’ stands with the best of anything that the Afrobeat legend has done in his long career. Conjuring the sort of lights-low groove that Theo Parrish was knocking up at the time, Allen coos over a fractured-yet-focussed instrumental that stands up to the Miles Davis comparison of its title. Serial drum machine-botherer Motor City Drum Ensemble slaps a kick on it for an additional club-friendly edit.
