Doom-laden blues duo Eagle Twin are back with their long-awaited third album, out on 30 March on Southern Lord. This is a commanding record, weaving together rumbling vocals—courtesy of Gentry Densley—sky-scraping guitar riffs and powerfully dynamic beats, with nods to classic folklore and searing storytelling.

How Eagle Twin aren't held in the same regard as the likes of the Melvins and High on Fire is beyond me. They are one of the heaviest bands in the world and they're a two-piece who make the noise of about ten people. Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, the band is comprised of former Iceburn guitarist Gentry Densley and Tyler Smith on drums. Having released two albums on Southern Lord Records (the label which is run by the Sunn O))) guys), this is album number three and it's their heaviest and most exuberant album yet.
Featuring 2 long songs and two shorter ones, The Thundering Heard continues Eagle Twin's ongoing narrative stlye, drawing lyrical inspiration from ancient myths and creation stories while blistering us with their devastatingly heavy combination of doom metal, blues, and Densley's paint-stripping, guttural vocals. Just pop on 'Heavy Hoof' for 30 seconds and you'll grow chest hairs.
Eagle Twin albums are always fascinating and this may well be their strongest offering yet.
