I'm sorry to say that this is my favourite movie of all time. Howard Shore's soundtrack to the first edition in the Rings trilogy captures both the overcast darkness and total tweedom of Tolkein's novels. Since director Peter Jackson loves his extended versions and drawn out releases, why not release an OST this heaving with content?

8/10 Tom Customer review, 31st May 2018

When certain things become saturated in our culture its easy to overlook how incredible they were at the time. Regardless of whether you love or hate the Lord of the Rings movies, there's no doubt that Howard Shore did an amazing job on the score to match the ambitious task of putting Tolkien's masterpiece on the silver screen.

Shore's romantic and nostalgic theme for The Shire undoubtedly conjures up images of a peaceful countryside, while 'Khazad-dum' definitely ratchets up the tension of running from a giant fire demon (we've all been there). Of course, at times things get a little bit 'Enya' when we're dealing with the Elves, particularly on the Enya-featuring 'May It Me' but the haunting 'Lament for Gandalf' (featuring Elizabeth Fraser) is a beautiful counter-argument.

Epic stuff for an epic movie if that's your cup of tea.
