Dais Records give us the first LP of brutalised avant-pop from Chicago’s HIDE. Percussionist Seth Sher and visual artist Heather Gabel have crafted seven tracks of dark, intense industrialism here. The likes of ‘Wildfire’ manage to sound like both ‘Machine Gun’-era Portishead and ‘Wandering Star’-era Portishead simultaneously. Other sonic touchstones include Amnesia Scanner and Belief Defect. If HIDE were good enough for Marilyn Manson to take on his Pale Emperor tour, then they’re probably good enough for you.
