I’m sure I’ll be forgiven, upon seeing the cover and title of Josh T. Pearson’s new album The Straight Hits, for thinking that it was a perfectly observed satire on the American country music scene. It turns out that the once bearded, long-haired gent actually looks like that now. Don’t worry though, the music’s still good. Following two intense and cathartic albums (one with his band Lift To Experience, one solo) released a decade apart, he’s exorcised his demons. He decided he needed to be more positive and spread peace and love by the disastrous result of the last US presidential election. The Straight Hits is a billowing rock record that sounds kinda like a less punk version of L.A. punks X.
