Really interesting one this. South Carolina Mix-O-Rap had a couple of (very) minor hits in the 80s in a style that fused disco, Go Go and rap, then promptly disappeared. He appears to have been putting in work as DJ Blak in the intervening period, but People’s Potential Unlimited have managed to coax some new stuff out of him in the past couple of years. Eyes Of A Key was recorded while the artist was in prison and features production values that make all of those other ‘lo-fi’ artists around at the moment sound like Prince. It’s kind of like Delroy Edwards, kind of like Gravediggaz, kind of like that thing MC Ride’s brother does, and very good indeed.
