The Pharcyde were arguably the West Coast’s answer to De La Soul, offering a cool alternative to the gangsta rap of the ‘90s. Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde was their debut album, originally released towards the end of 1992, it is now, as well as being Kanye West’s favourite piece of wax, firmly established as a hip-hop classic. 25th anniversary reissue on translucent blue and yellow vinyl.

9/10 Tom Customer review, 22nd May 2018

Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde is undoubtedly a nineties hip hop classic, and quite innovative in its own way. Not gangsta enough to be lumped in with West Coast G-Funk, and not hard-edged enough to hold their own against most of the East Coast hip hop purists, The Pharcyde decided to just have a bloody good laugh instead. The jazzy, funky beats are fantastic and the sometimes rapped, sometimes sung lyrics deal with issues like unrequited love, self-love, self-deprecation, self-aggrandizement, and even parody of hip hop itself on "Return of the B-boy." Classics like "Passing Me By" and "Otha Fish" still sound fresh, and the rest of the album has aged pretty damn well too.
