Here we are again with the dream team combo of super-director Paul Thomas Anderson and soundtracker Jonny Greenwood, who has proven to be an extremely capable avant-leaning orchestral composer over his previous three Anderson soundtracks. Phantom Thread is remarkably lush and rich, as befits the film’s glamourous period setting. Released by Nonesuch.

8/10 Tom Customer review, 31st May 2018

On recent episodes of Adam Buxton's podcast, both Jonny Greenwood and Paul Thomas Anderson discussed their most recent film collaboration Phantom Thread, with particular emphasis on Greenwood's score. What was interesting to hear is that Anderson's repeated request was for Greenwood to find his romantic side and to unleash it for Phantom Thread.

Greenwood is obviously best known for being the multi-instrumentalist in Radiohead, but is also very well known for his soundtrack work for Anderson (and others). Previously Greenwood has attempted to marry the inherent tension of Anderson's films with dramatic orchestral scores (see There Will Be Blood for the best example of this), and despite Anderson's best efforts he actually continues to do so for Phantom Thread. However there is a definite softening of the edges, particularly on 'Sandalwood I' (which actually recalls Radiohead's recent 'Daydreaming') and the gorgeous 'House of Woodcock' which serves as the centrepiece of the score.

A fantastic score for a fantastic film - Greenwood strikes again!

9/10 Jack Customer review, 30th January 2018

A fantastic score, composed once again (as has been the case for Anderson's films over the last decade) by Jonny Greenwood, yes THAT Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead's guitarist). Give due to the man, as he has slowly but surely built a stellar "side" career composing movie soundtracks. At times, the music overwhelmed the movie, becoming the star in its own right. The music jumped out at me, seizing my heart, ears, and imagination. Bottom line: "Phantom Thread", both the soundtrack and the movie, is a WINNER.
