Irish singer/songwriter David Kitt returns with Yous, his first album in nine years. The release is preceded by this 10” single Still Don’t Know. In the intervening years following his last album, 2009’s The Nightsaver, David Kitt has been a member of Tindersticks live band and worked as an electronic DJ and producer under the name New Jackson, which, along with some well curated DJ sets saw him remixing The xx and Shit Robot. All this dabbling has undoubtedly influenced his latest work.

Still Don’t Know by David Kitt

David Kitt once covered 'Dancing in the Moonlight'. I mean we all have skeletons in our closet but really? He should have been forbidden from working in the music industry again.

Which would have been a shame because this is rather lovely. He's been away 9 years working in a more electronic zone as New Jackson and playing with Tindersticks so presumably has started to regain any kudos he lost by covering Thin Lizzy/Toploader. Opener 'Still Don't Know' is just lovely. A gentle acoustic pick, some wandering violin and his dry, understated vocals.

The fact that it's followed by something called 'Heavy Bongos' that the has both the title of...and sounds like an outtake is somewhat of a disappointment. Over on the flip 'Imagination' sounds like a demo and there's a closing thing that sounds like Chris Rea going Balearic...actually I quite like the atmospheres this induces. Holiday brochures  - that kind of thing.

So actually having given it a 7 only the first track is any good. But it's really good. Hopefully the forthcoming album will have more stuff like this because (ahem...I've been waiting all day for this)  This is the Kitt.
