Mumbling quartet Ghost Music quietly crawl into existence with I Was Hoping You'd Pass By Here, an understated debut of brushed-aside melodies that harkens back to the second-tier of classic indie rock: think of all the New Zealand shamble bands on Flying Nun and all the bands who made Pavement a little bit more melancholy and you'll already be familiar with this record of lo-fi serenity.

This is another one that slipped us by just because we are busy but if we are to bring you wonderful music that you may not have come across then we must make time to check these things out and then tell you about them. Otherwise we're just selling you what you already know about.

Ghost Music are from Southend-On-Sea but sound more like they come from Dunedin especially on hazy opener 'Home Dog'. Their influences are worn firmly on their sleeve  - Galaxie 500 and Yo La Tengo to name but two but the record isn't just about aping the past. The influences are used to construct a mysterious form of lo-fi indie rock that has roots in the spectral music of Bedhead as well as that much coveted Flying Nun sound. Songs like 'We Could Get Along' have elements of the Clean and the Chills and it's lovely ascending organ-assisted chorus is a dream.

Nicely produced with just the right element of mystery, these people have history in the likes of Beatglider and Plantman but together they seem more than the sum of their parts. English music that somehow feels as though it is from overseas, from a far flung part of the world. Really worth checking out.
