I’m sure you folks must be getting sick of me by now… every other time you click on an echospace record, my big stupid Welsh head is there gushing everywhere “oooh… this is so bliss, oooohhh Rod Modell rules… detroit, dub techno, sublime… blah blah blah… lush etc.”. Well tough shit, cuz here I am again, like Harry Enfield’s “Only Me” character. Four CDs on the label landed this week, one of the Phase90 discs is already a goner. These things don’t hang about infinitely, so I’m drawing your attention to this archival collection which comes almost 15 years after these tracks were originally released from 2001-2006 on wax via the now defunct Octal label. The tracks were originally released under the handles CV and Spectral Network (Michael Sickinger and Rod Modell) and are available for the first time ever on CD, including some previously unreleased material and have been remastered and assembled by Rod Modell. Used copies of the vinyl editions will cost you two arms and two legs - so this collection is pretty useful. Basically, you get to cop all 10 parts of Spectral Network’s ‘Defragment Series’ in one hit and a coupla CV mixes of Octal 2. It’s all deeply atmospheric, hypnotic and pretty darn funky gear.
