What can be said about Merzbow that hasn't been said already? Well, many things, but it wouldn't make them true. What is true however is that the master of freaked out, fuzzed-out, bleached-out noise is back with a new EP of sonic acrobatics, continuing his celebrated adventures with processed out-sound.
8/10 Ant Staff review, 07 December 2017
Good old Masami Akita relentlessly churns them out at a rate which means it’s easy to become overwhelmed, even intimidated by the endless output of this hugely prolific artist. I consider myself a fan yet feel like I can barely scratch the surface. I always like to check out his vinyl releases where possible, and am glad I did so with ‘Tomarigi’, cuz it’s a good one. The first side sounds like his machines have consumed him and he’s trapped inside, in some twisted act of irony where machine eats man who doesn’t eat animals. It’s as though he’s screeching to be released before he’s doomed to exist as a bunch one 1’s and 0’s for the rest of eternity. The second side is all pulsing and chirping synths like a robotic bird signalling an alarm that evil humans are on the prowl and looking to destroy them.
