In 1968 Chess Records teamed Muddy Waters up with Chicago rockers Rotary Connection. It was a rather calculated attempt to sell the older bluesman to hippies, and the result was a somewhat forced grafting of obvious psych tropes over Muddy’s standards and a cover of the Stones’ "Let's Spend the Night Together". It shouldn’t be the first port of call for those new to Waters, or anyone seeking the best in post-psychedelic era heavy blues. It is however an intriguing and very period-specific curio that would later lend samples to Cypress Hill and Gorillaz. Lavish reissue by Third Man.
