8/10 Clinton Staff review, 16 November 2017

Ok first up that's not a song title, it's a text. Sadly I'm not about in Paris on Sunday but I'm here in Leeds on a rainy Sunday if you are about?

23 Year old electronics whizz Mall Grab is at it again with another EP of his slightly wonky techno. The opening 'Caught Slippy' is a lovely sleek slice of carefully constructed beats and warm synths with a hugely workable gospel-ish vocal sample. But it's the lovely spacey house atmospherics you'll buy this for. Classically retro as if drifting in from a time gone by. Next 'Out of Time' uses exactly the same ingredients but folds them together separately. The synth sounds he's got here are just beautiful, like the first track he's found a nice three chord pattern and just stuck with it but here he's added some bouncy synth shards which give a much more upbeat  feel to proceedings

Overleaf there's a couple of versions of 'Ahmad'  - the DVE mix is particularly great  - a mixture of off kilter beats, wandering basslines and gorgeously grainy synth, the disparate sounds seemingly fitting together into a complex but hugely listenable.
