LA rockers Starcrawler were lucky enough to have their forthcoming debut album produced by alt. Country superstar Ryan Adams. I Love LA is the second single to be lifted from it and is the follow up to debut single Ants. The band formed after high school buddies Arrow De Wilde (voclas) and Henri Cash (guitar) searched Hollywood for a rhythm section, finding bass player Tim Franco and drummer Austin Smith. Limited edition 7” on Rough Trade.
REVIEWS
I want to believe that Starcrawler are more than talentless rich kids but 'I Love LA' doesn't do anything to change my mind. In fact it reinforces it and is more evidence that music is increasingly rewarding the stupid. It sits somewhere between the Ramones and Hole and shares many melodic similarities with the latter's 'Celebrity Skin'. It's nothing you'd ever turn off but the chorus of "I love LA, I don't want to leave today" doesn't exactly inspire. I once felt the same about Pudsey but did I make an average rock song about it? No I didn't.
B side 'Castaway' proves that there's nothing at all here it's all half baked, half arsed Joan Jett cast off. They'd be fine playing support slots in sweaty LA clubs but this band have been signed to Rough Trade. They once released........Smiths albums. I despair.
