Mark Ernestus - Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound member as well as owner of Berlin’s Hardwax - takes on remix duties for one of the techiest duos in dancehall. One might have expected this two-track to be harder than it is, but Ernestus instead flips the Equiknoxx sound on its head to pleasant effect. The duo’s trademark tropes are repurposed to new effect - check how the thick string stabs of ‘Congo Get Slap’ are turned into a classic dub techno chord.

- Mark Ernestus Remixes by Equiknoxx & Mark Ernestus
Basic Channel / Rhythm & Sound demigod Mark Ernestus reworks a coupla cuts from modern Dancehall operators Equiknoxx’s ‘Bird Sound Power’ album on DDS. His take on ‘Congo Get Slap’ is a joyous roller, sprinkling it with a little of his signature magic but not dubbing things out too much - it retains a forward momentum with its infectious horn like stab. He goes fully Basic Channel on ‘Flagged Up’ with lush dub chords that float away into infinity. The first side is decent but the second is the one I keep coming back to - as I’m sure a lot of folk yearning for that timeless Basic Channel sound will. If you’re that way inclined then I probably wouldn’t hang about as this is a hand-stamped white label job, and looks like the sort of thing that’s probably not gonna be easily available a few months down the line.
