The new album from Noel Gallagher’s current project High Flying Birds, Who Built The Moon?, is out now, and here to accompany it is this natty Maxi single. Holy Mountain is a storming track featuring Paul Weller on the old organ, and this release adds an instrumental version and an exclusive session recording bonus track. 12” on Sour Mash.
7/10 Clinton Staff review, 20 November 2017
Ok I'll bite. Remember Christmas in the 1970s? People wearing tartan on Top of the Pops, a balding man in an enormous hat playing guitar, your ageing relatives weeping whilst Wings played on the music centre? Rudolph the Red Nosed Reggae? Well Noel Gallagher's latest single is a quite entertaining mix of things from the 1970s, a Glitter band stomp (we're still allowed to say that are we?), that synth bit from Bryan Ferry's 'Let's Stick Together', lots of T Rex guitars, a whistle solo and a chorus so catchy that it seems to have been etched on my brain using a stencil kit.
It should be Christmas number one for ever and ever and Noel should be forced to appear on Christmas editions of Top of the Pops every year til he has a beard as long as the guy from Wizzard. Like it or not, this is yuletide fun and it sounds nothing like Noel Gallagher so don't go worrying about that.
