Burial serves up his second 12” in two months, this time on Boddika’s Nonplus Records. Much faster and darker than September’s Rodent, this month’s offering is a big bowl of crispy crunchy 2 step techno, with a generous dollop of crackle and lofi reverb on top. Sounds a bit like if you stood in the hallway between two rooms in a big club and recorded that sound on your phone (in a good way). Pretty heavy!

Weird that this has appeared on a label other than Hyperdub. Not sure what the story is behind it but it's another two tracks chucked out by Burial who seems content to see out his days hurling out a track here, a track there which always seem somewhat underwhelming other than the odd flash of brilliance. 'Pre- Dawn' is a faster paced piece than of late with a bounding tempo strutting along whilst scary synths pick out a simple four note motif. There's some nice hissy effects on here, the usual crackles and pops and that kind of thing.
'Indoors' is as ravey as Burial has got so far. Again it hurtles along on a tirade of beats on top of which he has layered the type of vocal splice more associated with early Prodigy. Again the track benefits from the trademark eerie crackles and swishing synths. There's a particularly great synth line here that in one swoop manages to bring the interest levels up a notch or two.
Both these tracks are going to sound good played out. It's not the Burial we know (or particularly even want) but again he's just doing his thing, making tracks putting them out and letting everyone deal with them in their own way.
