8/10 Robin Staff review, 08 November 2017

The goods are with us once again thanks to the punk dispatchers at La Vida Es Un Mus; as if they haven’t done us enough service this year with blistering records from Anxiety, Haram and the legendary Limp Wrist, they also put out Permission’s ‘Contagious Life’. We’re playing catch up with it right now and can confirm it’s another blistering slice of straight-up hardcore, rolling in and out in the unspoken agreement of fifteen minutes.

A London crew extracted from the overwhelming Leeds hardcore scene, these tunes flaunt little and offer two guitars duelling with a surprising subtlety -- like, loud and heavy, but choosing choice moments to suggest seconds of melody. “Holding Pattern” sounds almost jubilant in this set-up, the drums cutting out for a guitar that gets close to psych fanfare.

‘Nuff said, I reckon. This is a hardcore record with some guitars that sound seriously good, occasionally going full in on a microscopic hook, plus a rhythm section that know how to make the whole thing sound nimble as hell. It rules!
