Boston-based sonic voyagers Perhaps build on the promise of their handful of self-released LPs with a long-form suite of psych-out splendour for Riot Season that stretches out for more than half an hour. Sustained rhythms provide a sturdy bed for freewheeling sax, bubbling synths and textural guitar tones that merge into a wholly satisfying, dare we say funky variation on the kosmische tradition.

Fun as heck. Named Perhaps and therefore only a band potentially, ostensibly and figuratively, these skronk saboteurs make the whole endless motorik thing super fun, crowding their steady rhythms with sonic gunge so frenzied you forget you’ve just been sitting, rigid, for thirty odd minutes. You’ll probably dance, actually.
Perhaps. ‘Mood Stabalizer’ is one long track with a bunch of people pouring mixtures into it like kids making a potion in a paddling pool. Saxophones skronk, synths squirm and guitars grind away, moving through solos and discordance as one, serious pal drums away at the core. Like Coltrane’s crew on ‘Ascension’ they seem to all take choice moments to shine a lil’ bit but not too much, with certain motifs jumping out of the noise-drain and offering a brief, reprieving hook -- you’re in it for the long haul, they say, so have a treat.
What fun it is. It’s like listening to Melt Yourself Down and Sunburned Hand of the Man at the same time and it's sure to be enjoyed by a wide range of cosmos dwellers.
