- Movement Building Vol.3 by Gabriel Saloman
1 review. Add your own review.
Former Yellow Swan, Gabriel Saloman concludes his ‘Movement Building’ trilogy for Shelter Press, with the third volume on wax, and a handy 2CD set collecting all three volumes. It’s a vividly cinematic work incorporating elements of modern classical, drone and post-metal without really adhering to any common tropes of either. Originally created to accompany contemporary dance - outside of that context, a huge black cloud looms over the listener and seems to gradually dissolve as the album progresses. At times, there’s something of a dramatic post-rock feel to the sort of tension that builds - reminiscent of Godspeed! You Black Emperor. Saloman deploys bowed strings, martial drums, doomy - almost dubby bass, icy piano and washes of caustic guitar noise and distortion to paint his emotive and evocative monochrome picture. One which in isolation is powerful in itself, but as a whole (including the previous two installments) is pretty epic.
