This was originally released on CD way back in 2001 on Kitchen Motors / ÓMI as ‘Motorlab #3’ and has now been re-titled ‘The Hymn Of The 7th Illusion’ (i.e the title of the main track) for the new vinyl edition on Cold Spring. It’s also now credited to include The Hafler Trio. The angelic sounds of Icelandic Hljomeyki choir are slowly made more sinister as ominous Pan Sonic bass creeps in, making things satisfyingly eerie. The overall effect something like John Carpenter’s rudimentary/ minimal score for 'Assault on Precinct 13' meets Jerry Goldsmith’s theme from 'The Omen'. We then get an interlude - a moment of very near silence which is the track entitled “‘” before The Hafler Trio re-arrange things on a twenty three minute remix. It starts off pretty great until things get all spliced up in the middle - which might have sounded decent sixteen years ago, but that part hasn’t aged particularly well. The original twelve minute version is great though, and well worth owning if you don’t already have the CD.
