Rhythm Of Life by James Mason

James Mason's only solo LP gets a very welcome reissue on 8th Records. Mason was instrumental to Roy Ayers' late-70s jazz-funk works; he was forefront on Ayers LP Lifeline, including the huge "Running Away". Rhythm Of Life was recorded with legends Narada Michael Walden and Gene Torres, and released in 1977. The record had a short print run and there was no follow-up. A rich, textured and funky LP -- with Mason's superb guitar and keys -- it's now regarded by fans as a classic and was influential on a generation of acid-jazzers from the '90s onward. Features the Rare Groove staple, "Sweet Power Your Embrace".
