One of composer-rocker Frank Zappa's most beloved records, Absolutely Free turns fifty years old this year. You can't tell but I typed that sentence out with horror on my face, such was my shock. A blueprint of the gleefully lamentable and satirical psychedelia that marked this period of Zappa and the Mothers, this reissue comes with lotsa extras to poke several sticks at.

9/10 Jack Customer review, 28th November 2017

I almost don't know how to describe this album without using the word "eclectic". The liner notes state songs were written between 1964 and 1967--who knew Frank Zappa was this cool so long ago? The music ranges between Miles Davis-like electric jazz and blues, "straight" rock with hysterical lyrics to well, "weird" songs that remind me of a cross between theremin-filled B-grade melodrama soundtracks and 1960's SoHo poetry readings. I played this over and over again, and each time, it got better--even the "weird" songs.
