8/10 Ant Staff review, 07 September 2017
On ‘Study For A Monument’ Johan Zetterquist uses minimal tools; Gibson SG, amp and f/x to build and sculpt large structures, layering atonal shards of feedback and noise live with no overdubs. The sound lies somewhere between the drone metal of Stephen O’Malley, Matthew Bower, Keiji Haino and G.H. (Modern Love) and Throbbing Gristle’s ‘Six Six Sixties’. In the broadest sense, most certainly this is a "guitar noise" album but is possibly closer to sound art than the nihilistic, brutal racket of "harsh noise". Although some of the frequencies are pretty harsh and jarring, they’re countered with much lower doomy frequencies and the interplay creates something quite stirring. As though there were some sort of entity in the electricity trying to communicate and Zetterquist is simply the medium.
