Brokenchord is Ernestas Kaušylas, a Lithuanian composer who here collaborates with drummer Augustas Baronas trained in jazz disciplines; it's a record that hinges on the straightforwardly songful electronics of Bonobo and Radiohead with themes that subverts our 21st century expectation of robots impersonating humans --Kaušylas seeks to put it "the other way round".

Why did I know I'd like this? Not a clue but I'm not going to question it. Brokenchord is the brainchild of Lithuanian producer Ernestas Kaušylas who has here collaborated with jazz-influenced drummer, Augustas Baronas whose intricate beats give an added dimension to these compositions. Opener 'Door Shutter' is a stunner -the sort of track that if it was made by Four Tet or Bonobo would be being heard everywhere - a brilliant marriage of traditional instrumentation and live drums. There's other moments just as interesting such as the sped up Caribou sound of 'Endless' and the kraut jam of 'Transmission' with its superb low end bass pounding away. Certain tracks have a fuzzed out rockish sound which I wasn't expecting after the light and breezy opening couple of tracks and by the time i've reached the closing dubbed out Portishead ish groove of 'Parabola' I'm pretty confident of describing the album as a 'mixed bag'. Some good moments though...and this guy has collab'd with Radiohead so maybe you should check it out.
