9/10 Benn Staff review, 14 November 2017
I love a good reunion. Quicksand are a band from the 90's that drew inspiration from the classic grungy/hardcore bands of the time and became one of those that you'd encounter from time to time. Interiors is the bands first release in over 20 years. I'm not too sure why they reformed, but I'm sort of glad that they did.
As you drift through the record, you get hints of Deftones (probably because Sergio Vega was in Deftones) all the way through to Rise Against. You can see why the whole 'post-hardcore' genre does so well, it can bring together a number of musical elements and draw on the strengths. When listening to a record that has been 20 odd years in the making, you almost have to approach the band who created it, as a new band. You simply cannot compare 2017 Quicksand to 1995 Quicksand, and certainly not 1993 'Slip' Quicksand.
The record does have a very well produced quality to it. Some people can get quite offended by a crisp sounding record and prefer the raw and straight-out-of-bed, sound. If that is the case listen to their older stuff, because Interiors is produced to a quality, top studio, level. Personally, I like the sound of a well produced album just as much as I like the trashy stuff. For a 9/10 band, there isn't really too much more to say. Just stick your earphones in when you're walking to work or whatever, and let the record swim around your mind.
