After collaborations with Merzbow and Daniel Avery, Alessandro Cortini (Modwheelmood, Nine Inch Nails) moves to The Point Of Departure for his third solo full length album. AVANTI is Cortini writing the soundtrack to found Super 8 film footage made by his grandfather. Huge walls of synths rise like an orchestra with a retro fuzz, think first album by Blanck Mass meets nostalgia.

Nine Inch Nail Alessandro Cortini amps up the wistful, yearning, longing feelings found on previous albums on Hospital Productions and Important Records to grandiose new levels on ‘AVANTI’. The primitive charm and emotional weight of those records really resonated with me. But here, at times, it sounds so dramatic and epic it just feels like too much - at least for my ears. Where those records felt like the sounds were just pouring out of him, ‘AVANTI’ feels more laboured and conceptual - scoring memories/ childhood nostalgia complete with vocal fragments from old home movies. Of course, there are lovely vintage synth sounds aplenty, and I’m pretty sure that a lot of folk will rate this as his masterpiece or something. If you dig slightly fuzzy, warm, hauntological ambient then definitely check it out.
